Project SEARCH is...
...a unique, business led, one year school-to-work high school transition program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Total workplace immersion facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on training through work site rotations. Our focus is on employment readiness for all. We work on the soft skills, and job-specific skills needed in order for our young people to begin a successful career in their area of interest.
The success of Project SEARCH doesn't just happen. The program involves many different agencies throughout the state of Delaware!
Nanticoke Health Services in Seaford, DE serves as the home business for our Project SEARCH site. Nanticoke's mission is to positively impact the communities’ quality of life through superior health service. The knowledge, patience, and dedication from Nanticoke's employees and leadership are undoubtedly an integral part of our program's success.
The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) has more than 75 years of experience in helping individuals with disabilities prepare for, obtain, and maintain employment. DVR provides people who want to work with access to the the best resources for training, support and career placement services. DVR's partnership with Project SEARCH helps our interns get what they need to be successful employees in training. It is also a great learning opportunity for interns and their families as they learn how to access these supports appropriately when they need them.
The Division of Developmental Disabilities Services (DDDS) is a state agency whose mission is to "value persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, honor abilities, respect choice, achieve possibilities and work together to support healthy, safe and fulfilling lives." DDDS's partnership with Project SEARCH ensures that our interns' support team is fully involved with every step of the transition process, and families can access the supports they need as their young adult begins to lead a more independent life.
Autism Delaware’s POW&R program was created in order to provide adults with autism in Delaware the opportunity to work and volunteer at businesses in their communities and engage in health and wellness opportunities. This agency helps provide direct support to our interns by giving guidance, and providing one of our program's skills training staff. Autism Delaware helps our interns make that final transition from our program to adulthood.
Community Integrated Services’ (CIS) mission is to empower people with disabilities through individualized employment opportunities that foster self-sustainability, equality, and community. CIS is another agency that provides direct support to our interns by giving our program guidance and providing one of our program's skills training staff. CIS helps our interns make that final transition from our program to adulthood.
The Delaware Department of Education (DOE) is one of the reasons that Project SEARCH exists in Sussex County. DOE wanted to provide an additional program that helps young people with a clear vision for their future meet and expand upon their goals. DOE has helped bring a total of four Project SEARCH programs to the state of Delaware.
Seaford School District serves as the home district for Project SEARCH interns. We follow this district's calendar throughout the duration of the program. However, ANY young adult still receiving school-age services from ANY district in Sussex County is eligible to participate!
